Immerse yourself in George Washington's history, Civil War tales, ride the Potomac Eagle train and meet our favorite citizens: the Bald Eagles.

]]>Fri, 04 May 2012 20:17:23 -0500<![CDATA[Cinco de Mayo on 5/12/2012]]>The Stray Cat Cafe, located at the Sunrise Summit near Romney, is once again hosting a Cinco de Mayo celebration.  At noon, there will be games for children including the breaking of a pinata.  Bands will play throughout the day.  At the neighboring Mayhew Chevrolet, there will be a classic car show and exhibitions by professional wrestlers.

The pathways are carefully prepared by the Backcountry Horsemen of West Virginia.  The Ruritan Club provides refreshments, space for camping, and southern hospitality.  Participants may enjoy lots of great lodging facilities in the area.

]]>Thu, 03 May 2012 12:22:34 -0500<![CDATA[Confederate Memorial Day on 6/2/2012]]>To honor Civil War soldiers buried at County cemeteries, the 13th Virginia Company reenactors  will visit cemetaries throughout the county.  On Saturday June 2nd, the program begins at 8:30am at Indian Mound Cemetery and ends at Capon Chapel Church in Capon Bridge.

Records show that, with the assistance of surviving soldiers of the war, the women of Romney raised funds to commission a monument from the Gaddes Brothers of Baltimore. The white Italian marble structure was delivered to Indian Mound Cemetery on September 14 and dedicated on September 26, 1867.
